For four days, Vila Baleira Hotels in Porto Santo become the meeting point for food lovers and culinary professionals alike—chefs, enthusiasts, and the curious—coming together to showcase and explore the many ways to prepare the fish that gives the festival its name: Tuna.
Inspired by history and culture, the Tuna Route Festival elevates the connection between tuna and the island of Madeira, particularly Porto Santo.
The waters surrounding it, in the Atlantic, are part of the tuna's migratory routes, and, especially due to its mild climate, were considered strategic zones for fishing this fish.
The festival, therefore, not only honors this long tradition but also encourages innovation and more sustainable fishing, preparation, and consumption strategies.

The Tuna Route Festival (Rota do Atum) first emerged in 2018, created by the Vila Baleira Group. On the renowned island of Porto Santo, acclaimed chefs from around the world come together to host what is, to date, the largest gastronomic festival centered around tuna.
